The wedding at Cana

John 2:1 ON THE third day there was a wedding at Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.

John 2:2 Jesus also was invited with His disciples to the wedding.

John 2:3 And when the wine was all gone, the mother of Jesus said to Him, They have no more wine!

John 2:4 Jesus said to her, [Dear] woman, what is that to you and to Me? [What do we have in common? Leave it to Me.] My time (hour to act) has not yet come.

At the wedding there was a need, they had run out of wine, there supply was empty, (when the salt has lost it’s saltiness how will it be made salty again?)

Yes we all have a need, the disciples also had a need they needed to see if this Jesus of Nazareth was in fact the Messiah, John had told them twice he was:-

John 1:15 John testified about Him and cried out, This was He of Whom I said, He Who comes after me has priority over me, for He was before me. [He takes rank above me, for He existed before I did. He has advanced before me, because He is my Chief.]

John 1:35 Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples,

John 1:36 And he looked at Jesus as He walked along, and said, Look! There is the Lamb of God!

John 1:37 The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Him.

His mother knew the disciples and the wedding guests need and she also knew who Jesus was.

The disciples had as yet a very little faith and they needed to see, the wedding guests had a need as they were lacking. How little faith we have

When we live in a world which has to see things happen to believe them and even then would question the validity of what they had seen and try to take it apart and look for other explanations.

You must learn to trust and put all your faith in Him who is God Himself.

John 1:1 IN THE beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself.

When Jesus is in that situation with you, do not look to that situation no matter how difficult or impossible it may at first appear to you but look beyond that situation do not look at the problem but instead fix your eyes , your heart on the solution and look to Jesus because with Jesus all things are possible. There is nothing to hard or to difficult for him

Matt 28:18 Jesus approached and, breaking the silence, said to them, All authority (all power of rule) in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.

John 2:5 His mother said to the servants, Whatever He says to you, do it.

John 2:6 Now there were six waterpots of stone standing there, as the Jewish custom of purification (ceremonial washing) demanded, holding twenty to thirty gallons apiece.

The jars used for purification of the Jews must have stank, this is where they all washed when entering the house, before eating, etc.

They believed that the water washed away the dirt leaving them clean, so as we are told the Jars are made of stone we can assume that they were very heavy and can also imagine that they were not so much emptied and cleaned out as just topped up. Even though they were topped up the dirt remained and more dirt was added.

Are we not as the bible says frail human vessels

2 Cor 4:7 However, we possess this precious treasure [the divine Light of the Gospel] in [frail, human] vessels of earth, that the grandeur {and} exceeding greatness of the power may be shown to be from God and not from ourselves.

But in our unsaved state we are filled with all sorts of pollution and corruption and our own thoughts are nothing more than filthy rags to Him.

Just like those stone jars the filth and dirt remains our sins remain, even though the Jews would wash there hands in these Jars they could not wash away sin, no matter how hard you scrub your sin remains.

John 2:7 Jesus said to them, Fill the waterpots with water. So they filled them up to the brim.

When we come into that relationship with Jesus and we become born again not from Flesh and blood but by the very spirit of the living God and made a new creation, we are emptied from all the filth and filled with living water the Holy spirit Jesus says :-

John 4:10 Jesus answered her, If you had only known {and} had recognized God's gift and Who this is that is saying to you, Give Me a drink, you would have asked Him [instead] and He would have given you living water.

John 4:13 Jesus answered her, All who drink of this water will be thirsty again.

John 4:14 But whoever takes a drink of the water that I will give him shall never, no never, be thirsty any more. But the water that I will give him shall become a spring of water welling up (flowing, bubbling) [continually] within him unto (into, for) eternal life.

John 2:8 Then He said to them, Draw some out now and take it to the manager of the feast [to the one presiding, the superintendent of the banquet]. So they took him some.

John 2:9 And when the manager tasted the water just now turned into wine, not knowing where it came from--though the servants who had drawn the water knew--he called the bridegroom

John 2:10 And said to him, Everyone else serves his best wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then he serves that which is not so good; but you have kept back the good wine until now!

The transforming power of the spirit of God, the transforming purifying power of the cross, upon which took our filthy sin soaked rags and washed them in his blood making them as white as snow.

Jesus takes these sin filled vessel pours the living water into us and washes our sin full garments clean in his precious blood. He takes away our garments of mourning and gives us a garment of praise.

Exchanges the inheritance we did have which was judgment and damnation in Hell for the inheritance in the Kingdom of Heaven one in which we do not deserve.

He best wine being the work of the cross all God has invested in that and the best wine his blood which was poured out for many for the forgiveness of Sins.

Matt 26:28 For this is My blood of the {new} covenant, which [ratifies the agreement and] is being poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

John 2:11 This, the first of His signs (miracles, wonderworks), Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory [by it He displayed His greatness and His power openly], and His disciples believed in Him [adhered to, trusted in, and relied on Him].

God Bless
